Why are import cars generally more aesthetically enduring than domestic cars?
February 19th, 2010 | by cars |modestYahoo! asked:
Ford GM and Daimlel/Chrysler cars may look slick and stylish upon release, but their styling gets old and stale after a year or two. Some examples are the new Ford mustang and the Chrysler 300 and the Chev Malibu. On the other hand cars like hondas toyotas and mercedes can look nice for many years after release.

believe it or not most imports are made from better material than domestics also the import workers are not fat and lazy like us americans and therefore do a better job all around. im a ASE certified master tech with 28 years experience my best vehicle ever was a 85 toyota 4wd extra cab. i beat it to death and it kept on going. no domestic could take a beating like the toyota took. and still roll straight down the road

I think it has to do with the big three using ’study groups’ , and not their design teams. I will never forgive GM for the last ten years they made Oldsmobiles. They ruined the name forever with year after year of total crap.
I still like the Mustang, but that’s about all. The Charger needs new sheetmetal badly…since retro is in I want to see a 69 Charger remake. Challengers are on the way, and they should hold their own if Dodge doesn’t price them out of the market- like the Prowler.

I agree on the newer cars having no style, but Honda’s and Toyota’s aren’t any better looking. In fact most of them are down right ugly

The only good looking cars I’ve seen are Italian cars. Where art and then racing orginated from.
Even a 30 year old Ferrari still looks beautiful.

Maybe German cars, but not Japanese cars
They maybe more reliable, but Japanese cars will look old just like any American car
I think a 2001 Toyota Camry looks just as boring as 2001 Chevy Malibu. But after 7 years, a German car will still be nice looking (like a 7 year old Mercedes S-class or VW Passat).

Because Americans are not good designers. They copy off of other cars and they think there cars look nice. They don’t think about the designs that people like when designing a car.

I agree looks does matter, but like everything else we get tired of that look. The most important factor to me is “How Good is that Auto Manufactures vehicles?” I’ve had a number of domestic cars with internal engine problems, bad computer boards, etc. I also had a Japan car for 19 years which I junked because it had too much rust although the engine, transmission, etc. had NO Problems.
In closing looks does matter, but more importantly is an auto that doesn’t break down on the side of the highway!

If American cars looked too nice out of the box, there would be no reason to trade one in for next year’s model. Planned obsolescence was practically invented in Detroit. In Europe and Japan, where owners hold on to their cars longer and may finance them for longer terms, changing the looks every year, or trying to be super-trendy, is more of a liability.
