Your right. The Cars sound outstanding live. I think it’s because there is minimal role spread across the sum of all 5 of the musicians parts. Each section bass, keyboards, seperate guitar parts, and vocal melodies all are a bit simplistic. They all have a responsibility to the notes, without playing overcomplicated pieces, so their music showcases a full rounded tone.

They were really something. Their music is timeless. I’m still very touched by it today.

I was in the third row at the LA Sports Arena right in front of Ric Ocasek. I remember the guitar picks taped to the mic stand just like that. He even tossed a couple out. Any chance for a real reunion died when Ben Orr passed away. It was a great show by an underrated band.

No. Ben always sang it.

Did Ocasek usually sing this song or no?

I would have killed to see them live when I was a kid. Oh well I can enjoy their amazing talent on Youtube. The Cars in my opinion are one of the best bands to come out of America!

You would think that would be one of the hardest songs to play live, yet the guys make it seem effortless.

They sound like an amazing garage styke band. This is my favourite band ever.

Almost any band can make a good studio sound. What defines whether a band is good or not is dependent on how they play live. That’s what makes the cars so good.

Man, did these guys have it figured out or what!
Was lucky enough to see them in concert a couple of times, their live sound was better than any band I’ve seen before or since.
Miss you, Ben!
