Wow, nice to see I’m not alone. The first two Cars albums also changed my life and the way I listened to music. They both must have played a million times on my turntable. Sadly commercialism showed it’s ugly face and the vibe was gone.
Thanks for the video clip, it shows well an era that enlightened legions of music fans.
wow….i think exactly the same as u marked…add in the fact that these 5 were very good musicians and that you could play every song on these albums and not have to jump to the next song because they were all good songs…..after the first 2, panorama got a little new wave/punk sounding and then the cars had a more commercial sound after that, but the first 2 albums are pure gold…would put both in my top 15 or 20 albums of all time!!!
RIP, Ben. Pancreatic cancer..man that so sucks, it’s like you better make out your will when you get that news. It is so aggressive,so fast, it’s awful. My aunt just died from it back in October, they gave her 6 months, she only lived 3. RIP, Auntie.
The cars were a phenomenon. The first two albums were revolutionary and spellbinding cause they had that MAGIC sound and were literally addictive to kids like us. We would listen to those records over and over and over.
how is it that ben orr with that voice wasnt a huge star in the 80s? I remember thinking that ric o. was the main singer of the group.First two records were more important to teenage me and friends getting laid n early eighties than anything else. Thanks youtube-got to finally see them perform classics like this, after all these years!!!
Right on, I cannot remember how many time we listened to Candy-O over and over and over. The way the songs just roll into one another, a masterpiece in my book! Definetly one of the best albums of all time on my list.
I am going to see outragous The Cars tribute band, Talk Of The Town on Fri Dec 5. They are playing at Sundance in Rocky Point,Long island
NY. Thats 60 mile drive from Manhattan(90mns)
. The Police tribute band Invisible Sun is also on the bill. This is the best music.
So many of the older band’s styles get copied by newer bands, yet no band has ever been able to copy the style of The Cars - an original style, original sound, no imitators.
Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr (may he Rest In Peace) were The Cars IMHO (Ric wrote everything and he and Orr split the lead vocal duties right down the middle). This is one of the greatest album closers in rock history. I know some gripe about The Cars but they originated in my native Massachusetts. Damn shame they aren’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet and Grandmaster Flash is. Sacrilege folks!
The most perfect pop song which enters an otherworldly realm towards its end. This tune mesmerizes me more than Charlie Manson at a Kool-Aid stand. Dangerously brilliant.

Ahahah. I love the way Ric sings “Can I touch you/are you out of touch?” in the beginning. It just .. made me smile.

this is by far my favorite Cars song.
I love David’s drumming and Ben’s dreamy eyes.

I got to see the Cars live twice in the early 80s. To this day, I still think “Candy-O” is one of the ten best albums of all-time.
