I remember when the Cars first came on the scene and thet just blew everyone away because they sounded like no one else!
And Candy-O sounds just as good today as it did then !

i can still hear my parents yelling”turn that music down in there!!! I was the first one to get cars music among my buddies, it was on 8 track. they kicked *** then and those songs are as good today as they were then, although some of my hearing loss is probably from them and the killer headphones my parents got me !

The Ramones, The Cure, Psychedlic Furs, Gary Numan, Lene Lovich (just look at her…that ain’t Disco). The The, Flock of Seagulls, Pete Shelly,Men Without Hats…
Btw, I don’t consider Dura Duran a real New Wave group.

I would say they were influenced by Rock and Underground music (which includes alot of Punk).
The lyrics alone was controversial.
(Disco “don’t go there”). It was also noncomforming, they had their own sound.
It was radical.
International.
To those of us who went to clubs called “Sweat” and “Spit”,….. it really had nothing to do with Disco.
To me Disco was not radical. It was conforming.
Disco was all dance , remembered ballroom steps, and glitter balls.

New wave never got rid of disco, nothing ever did, in fact New wave was influenced a lot by disco, Just listen to early Duran Duran, Japan, Soft Cell, Blondie, New Order, ABC. Donna Summer’s I Feel Love was totally influencial in the Punk/New Wave scene, and Georgio Moroder worked with a lot of New Wave artists. Lene Lovich wrote Supernature for Cerrone. Chic influenced all kinds of bands.

Great song and a great band, this is why the music scene still lives and not some rapper.

What a great title track from their 2nd album. The Cars, in the late70s, were a great band with that new sound that was welcomed by millions of fans, like me. I have all of their albums on vinyl and CD, and I truly miss the band. RIP Ben Orr, and Rik, continue collecting all of those royalty cheques and living with that hot former model wife of yours, Paulina (Pourizkova?).
