If you are selling cars of your own, the number is 3.

If you are running an auto resale business without a licensethe number is zero.

Running a scam to avoid a licese is frowned apon.

You can sell 4 in YOUR name in a 12 month period. There are benefits to obtaining a dealer license. If the cars are in someone else’s name you don’t need a dealer license, as it’s 4 per person, not household.

I just want to go to the auction and buy a few cars, how do I get in?
Answer: You must own your own dealership or be affiliated with one, such as a salesman or buyer, unless it’s a city parish or state auction, which are posted in your local paper.

How much does it cost for a dealer license?
Answer: There is a fee of $200.00 for your dealership license, $25.00 for your salesman’s license and $25.00 for your buyer’s identification card (this is optional and will get you into salvage pool auctions only). These fees are due yearly.

Are they Titled into your name? Are you licensing and registering them? These are a couple things that will put you on the “red” list as a non-licensed “salesman”. Should your name show up on too many transactions you will be contacted by the City or the IRS.
