Why do some cop cars at my sheriff department have more lights than others at the department?

Some have lights on the dash/deck+on the roof.
Some have lights on the dash/deck only.
Some have lights on the roof only.
All of the cop cars are marked by the way.

some are older cruisers some are newer. Some officers like to add more to their cars, some officers don’t really care.

that usually depends on the division they are in, ie. the vehicles in traffic div. will have more lights than say patrol, crimes, or uc work

It really depends. Some departments give a yearly allowance to buy lights. The cars are usually set up very basically when an officer gets them. It also can depand on how the car is being used ie. traffic, transports, and so on. Some departments require all cars to be the same others allow the officers to choose what they want.

Just depends on what light system the department decides to buy at a given time.

Because some officers pay out of their own pockets to light up their patrol cars like a Christmas tree.

Probably because they can’t afford any more lights…..
