What cars are really fast and cheap to buy?

Ilyannah. asked:

I’ve looked into cars such as the Pontiac Solstice and the Lotus Elise [USED Elise].
The 2002 Lotus Elise just so happens to be my favorite. But for a new one, way over my price range.
And i can’t find one used ANYWHERE.

As you can see, i like the sporty fast cars.

Actually, no, I can’t see that.

You chose two sporty coupes. Neither of which are “fast” by any stretch of the imagination.

Buy an Eclipse GSX. Costs around $5000. Put $5000 into it, and you have a $10,000 car that will absolutely destroy the Elise and Solstice, and look better to boot.

Look for deal on a Saturn Sky turbo. Try a Mazdaspeed 3. Look at the Chevy Cobalt SS turbo. A Honda Civic si. All of those are plentiful & affordable.

Actually neither the Elise nor the Solstice are fast. They just look fast. It’s the Exige that’s the quick lotus, but that would ALSO be way above your price range. Try a Caterham. Very small, very light, but a 2L Ford Duratec engine tuned anywhere from 200hp to 263 in the top-of-the-range R500 means it is seriously quick. The R500 is faster around a track than the 1 million pound, 1000hp Bugatti Veyron and only a couple of tenths shy of the Pagani Zonda F.

It depends on your deffinition of fast, and what you want to do with the car. Also, if your willing to put money into it.

I personally love the Nissan 240sx (Silvia 13 and Silvia 14) and the MKIII Toyota Supra. Both those cars are cheep and easy to get, and with a little work, they go fast.

You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - autoinsurance.undonet.com

Ilyannah., I bought a used Elise in Indiana last year and saved some cash. I haven’t had any problems yet. I only buy used cars.
